Dear Friends,
It gives me great pleasure that this year’s Advent newsletter contains some real St. Nicholas surprises in the news section. In the letter section the request goes out to you to participate in the preparation of the 2012 annual conference. Wolfgang Rissmann’s preparatory group will meet on 19 December, which is why we would be pleased if we received as many ideas, wishes and offers as possible by then – they don’t need to be perfect.
With best wishes for Advent
Warmly
Michaela Glöckler

Dear friends
As the preparations for the annual conference in Dornach continue to take shape, I would like to say a word still about the key concern underlying the conference together with the request to support our work here in your thoughts. The newsletters from January to summer 2011 focused on the connection, as characterised by Rudolf Steiner, between the depths of the earth and the developmental behaviour of human beings, supplemented and extended by Friedrich Glasl’s conflict research.

First Complete Cycle
It took many helpful people and patience until all 19 Class Lessons could be held in Latvian. In May of this year it went ahead.
In May, for the first time, all 19 class lessons were held in Latvian in Latvia The cycle took three years to complete (2008 to 2011). During this time the class holders spent much time at translating and then the translated texts were read in Latvian. The class holders were appointed by the Executive Council at the Goetheanum.
Until the Second World War there had been a First Class

Dear friends and members,
90 years Weleda, 90 years Ita Wegman Klinik and 90 years "Das Goetheanum". That happens in the shadow of the 150 anniversary of Rudolf Steiners birthday.
There are many changes going on in these institutions. Changes are energy, and energy is one of the keywords of our time. From this point of view we can ask ourselves the question: How can we achieve these last steps in the new century. Have an open eye for upcoming ideas.
Yours
Wolfgang Held

Always Informed
In April the first anthroposophical family medical practice in Riga was opened in Medical Center 4. This became possible through contacts made between the two doctors (Mara Meijere and Gita Gange), as well as by networking with officials in the medical community. The opening of the anthroposophical family medical practice represents a great success. The practice not only builds a bridge between anthroposophical medicine and academic medicine—it also means acceptance by “official” medicine.

For the Co-workers of the Anthroposophic-Medical movement
From Dr. med. Michaela Glöckler
Dear Colleagues and Friends,
This Circular Letter remained unfinished over Christmas and comes to you with best wishes for the work in the New Year.
Various biographies marking Rudolf Steiner’s 150th anniversary have now been published, as expected, of which I have already read two:
One by the educationalist Heiner Ullrich, who traces Steiner’s life and teachings with “the greatest possible fairness”, and one by Helmut Zander, subtitled “The Biography”,

Quietly, globally, billions of bees are dying, threatening our crops and food. But a global ban of one group of pesticides could save bees from extinction.
Four European countries have begun banning these poisons, and some bee populations are recovering. But chemical companies are lobbying hard to keep all killer pesticides on the market. A global outcry now for a ban in the US and EU, where debate is raging, could provoke a total ban and a ripple effect around the world.
Let’s build a giant global buzz calling for these dangerous chemicals to be outlawed in the US and EU until and unless they are proved to be safe. Sign here the petition to save bees and our crops and send this to everyone

Dear Friends, we are happy to be able to send you these good news before Christmas –
ELIANT has reached the goal of one million. We thank all supporters for their magnificent commitment, without which we could never have done it.
Over 1.1 million people worldwide have added their signature to support the creation of legal framework conditions to safeguard freedom of choice and opportunity of choice for anthroposophic services and products. 1,001,671 signatures come from the EU (as at: 13.12.2010). Thus the ELIANT Alliance is one of the very first initiatives able to submit the necessary million signatures in Brussels as part of the European citizens' initiative (ECI).

Rudolf Steiner is known around the world as an author, lecturer and the creator of Anthroposophy, but his role as an inaugurator of new forms of collaboration has yet to be discovered in many places. Anthroposophic institutions are among those grappling with the special challenge of how to develop viable forms of leadership and management. The social ideal developed by Rudolf Steiner in 1923/1924 can serve as an inexhaustible source of inspiration for anyone who wants to unite the principles of spiritual guidance and leadership with those of professional responsibilities and the necessities of the workplace.

Dear friends,
A message from Philip Martyn (below) about the forthcoming lunar eclipse prompted me to look at Rudolf Steiner's comments about eclipses. His words are challenging and provocative:
"Eclipses of the sun and moon, recurring as they do in the course of every year, may really be looked upon as “safety-valves.” A safety-valve is there to avert danger, to provide an outlet for something or other — steam, for instance — at the right moment. One of the safety-valves which makes its appearance in the cosmos and to which we give the name of a solar eclipse, serves the purpose of carrying out into space in a Luciferic way, the evil that spreads over the earth, in order that evil may work havoc in a wider, less concentrated sphere. The other safety-valve, the lunar eclipse, exists for the purpose of allowing the evil thoughts which are present in the cosmos to approach those human beings who are desirous of being possessed by them. In matters of this kind people do not, as a rule, act in full consciousness, but the facts are nevertheless real — just as real as the attraction of a magnet for small particles of iron. Such are the forces at work, in the cosmos — forces no less potent than the forces we analyse and investigate today in our chemical laboratories...."

Dear friends!
This summer you have the opportunity to experience the Mystery Dramas of Rudolf Steiner as they will be explored through a modern and personal interpretation. Those involved are hoping to share an experience of the karma consciousness that arises out of working with the Dramas. During the four days preceding the summer performances, actors, philosopher’s, artists, the young, the old and all those interested in the mysteries, will join together to study the Dramas as they relate to each one’s life in a personal and unique way.

The human I stands at the center of anthroposophy. It provides the orientation for the human constitution and our knowledge of the human being, a knowledge that becomes practical in fields like pedagogy and medicine. But the I is also closely con- nected to the human being’s cosmic origin and the Christ Being.
Entering into the study of anthro- posophy we soon find that the very heart of it is the mystery of the human I or self. This is one of the central issues in anthroposophical Christology and one of the most important questions in anthroposophy altogether.

Dear Friends,
Easter greetings! I was asked how I was spending Easter and thought I'd share the reply with a larger group. It's been a lovely day for me and I hope the same for each of you. It's already evening here and it was a lovely day, spent with my friends up the road at the Camphill village for handicapped people. Winter is finally letting go, so it was a pleasant day even though some snow remains and conditions outdoors are muddy, wet, and sometimes very fresh.
Because we are out in the country, the Easter Hare -- (a hare is similar to a jack-rabbit, so he can carry much more than a mere bunny) -- has a lot of choices and possiblities for hiding his gifts. This hare chose the nearby woods. We went to the woods and spread out, looking for goodies -- colored eggs, bright oranges, little packets of candies, each tied in a ribbon. They were hidden in stumps and among the ferns, holes in trees, etc. The rule was that when you found something, you had to take it back to the starting point and place it on a cloth there before going to look for more. No one was rushing about, scooping up everything before anyone else could get it.

School of Western Esotericism
In 2006 a small school for anthroposophy was founded in Riga by Uldis Saveljevs (Council member of the Anthroposophical Society in Latvia) together with former Waldorf teacher Dainis Ozolins, physician Mara Meijere and eurythmy teacher Guna Donina. The first
14 students have now celebrated their graduation.
The festive granting of diplomas on May 23 began with a eurythmy performance under the direction of eu- rythmy teacher Guna Donina and a reading from Rudolf Steiner’s Calendar of the Soul. The students received their diplomas at the conclusion of a threeyear program of study.
Uldis Saveljevs, teacher at the School for Western Esotericism, told the audience about how this initiative arose. Some time earlier, the impulse for the school had been perceptible in the spiritual world, and thus it did not take too much effort to bring it to incarnation in the physical world. The school was founded in 2006 to meet the needs of young people and the Anthroposophical Society in Latvia for a deepened knowledge of anthroposophy. Since then the School for Western Esotericism has been offering its work to members of the Anthroposophical Society as well as to the general public.

Various Relationships to the State
Teachers and parents belonging to the Waldorf movement in Sweden and Germany have often worked in Lithuania. The result has been several kindergartens and schools organized along the lines of Waldorf pedagogy.
The Vilnius school has twelve classes with about 220 children; graduates can attend university. The school was run by the state, but now it wants to change that; a large circle of parents and teachers have discussed a new constitution for the school. The social form of the Gröbenzell Rudolf Steiner School (Germany) seemed a good model.
The building the state left to the school looks like a ruin. The approximately 3 million litas (=1.5 million euros) hoped for from the EU will not be nearly enough for renovation, not to mention the fact that there is no auditorium or facility for sports. At the end of March a group from the school (and their architect) will visit Gröbenzell to discuss how to start construction on a new building.
